for a moment I thought the Subways were destined to be one of the biggest bands in the world. young, great full guitar sound, catchy tunes, and a hot bassist. Their debut record is brilliant but their follow up was not as impressive. let's hope they come back with something strong soon, in the meantime their debut is a must have and i'm sure you'll see another song in my top 200.
this was their first single "Rock & Roll Queen"

#194 Def Leppard "Bringing On The Heartbreak"
i swear it was not planned that two 'metal' bands are back to back, but just the way it is I guess. again I've never been a huge fan of the 'hair band' scene per se, but I also never really thought of Def Leppard as one of those kind of bands, its probably because I was always a fan of their early work, and this song is a great example of why they were always shades above those that followed their lead..
#195 Guns N Roses "Live at the Ritz"
never been a huge metal fan but these guys rock at least they did here.

#197 The Church "Destination"
Australian legends and now Second Motion label artist, The Church.. circa 1988 with the opening track off Starfish the song called "Destination"
#198 Smashing Pumpkins "Siva"
In the summer of 1991, things were about to explode on the music scene. I was fortunate enough to see this rather unknown band at the time play at the Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill, NC to less than 100 people. There were not even tickets to the show you just paid at the door. The band was The Smashing Pumpkins
and a live clip at their peak:

#199: Superchunk "Cast Iron/Throwing Things" (No Pocky For Kitty)
heros of my former hometown, Chapel Hill, NC- Superchunk. No Pocky For Kitty is still one of my all-time favorite records.. I wish there was a good video of "Cast Iron" but I found this great live footage:
Cast Iron (Live)
then performing at The Glastonbury Festival in 1993
and for good measure he's the video for "Throwing Things"

Our Top 200 Favorite Songs
I've been listening to a lot of older records lately, and thought it would be fun to make an attempt at posting my top 200 favorite songs of all-time. This is by no means a science, it's just based on where my mood takes me at the moment, so take it with a grain of salt.
here's the first, #200.. at first I wanted to use a song from the band Belly, featuring Tanya Donnelly (Throwing Muses) but I couldnt find any videos that I really liked, and I then tripped across and remembered this video from the original Breeders, that featured Tanya when she and Kim Deal (of the Pixies) had the band as just a side project.
